Whois Privacy Protection, occasionally also referred to as Privacy or Whois Privacy Protection, is a service that conceals the authentic contact details of domain name registrants on WHOIS check web sites. Without this service, the name, street address and email account of any domain name owner will be publicly visible. Supplying false details upon registration or altering the real details later will just not work, as doing such a thing may result in the registrant losing their domain ownership rights. The policies approved by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, demand that the WHOIS information must be correct and up to date all the time. The Whois Privacy Protection service was introduced by domain registrars as an answer to the arising concerns for potential identity fraud. If the protection service is active, the registrar company’s contact information will appear instead of the domain name registrant’s upon a WHOIS lookup. Most domain names support the Whois Privacy Protection service, even though there are some country-code ones that do not.
