If you'd like to forward a domain name that you have to another domain address or subdomain, a good way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain address being forwarded loses all of its records (A, MX, etc) and instead, it takes the A record of the Internet domain it is directed to. This way, if you use a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be pointed to the site that you've set up, but it'll also appear in the Internet browser address bar at all times. Alternative possible uses of a CNAME record are to forward all the targeted traffic from different subdomains to their main domain name, or to use the webmail service of your webhosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain simply because such a record created for the main domain name makes it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Shared Website Hosting

If you have a shared website hosting plan from our company and you would like to create a CNAME record, it will take you a few mouse clicks to do it. You can access the DNS records for all domain names and subdomains hosted in your account from the Hepsia CP included with every single plan and adding a new record is as easy as clicking on a button, selecting the type, that will be CNAME in this case, inputting the actual record value and saving the change. If you've never added such a record before, you will find a Help section with a detailed video tutorial that you can watch, or you can just contact us and we'll assist you with this task. If you have created a site via another provider, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you wish to designate a subdomain for use with the services of a different provider, for instance Google Apps, all it takes is creating a CNAME record with a couple of mouse clicks in your CP.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Managing DNS records usually seems to be a challenging task to the people with less experience, but the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with every semi-dedicated package which we provide, is very simple to use. If you want to create a CNAME record for any purpose, all you will have to do will be to choose the domain or subdomain you need, select the type of record, that will be CNAME in this case, then type in the value i.e. the domain or subdomain you are forwarding to. The procedure is very simple and you can create the record in the DNS Records section of the Control Panel. Within the hour the new record will be fully active and within a couple of hours it's going to propagate all over the world. If you're not sure what you should do, we've prepared an in depth help article and a short video tutorial regarding how to go about creating a CNAME record and they are both situated in that very same section of Hepsia. Needless to say, you can also get in touch with us for assistance anytime.
